K&L Gates hired David Raphael as a partner in its environment, land and natural resources practice in Harrisburg, Pa. Raphael served as chief counsel of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection since 2011.

Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton hired three intellectual property attorneys in its Seattle office. Dario Machleidt joins the firm as an associate on the patent litigation team, while Tyler McAllister and Patrick Njeim join the firm as associates on the software and electrical engineering team. The firm also hired Akash Desai in Atlanta as an associate on the technology and trade secret litigation team.

Ulmer & Berne hired Richard T. Hamilton Jr., to chair the firm's white collar practice group. Based in the firm's Cleveland office, Hamilton joins the firm after spending the bulk of his 20-plus-year legal career as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice's antitrust division and, most recently, with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Ohio.

Goodwin Procter hired Derek A. Cohen as a partner in New York in its securities litigation and white collar defense group. Cohen joins Goodwin from the Department of Justice, where he served as deputy chief of the fraud section for the DOJ's Criminal Division and deputy director of the Deepwater Horizon Task Force.

Thomas F. Allen Jr. has joined the Dallas office of Jones Day as a partner in the issues and appeals practice.

Charles J. Stevens returned to Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's San Francisco office as a partner.

Ballard Spahr hired William Alden McDaniel Jr. as a partner in Baltimore.

Crowell & Moring LLP hired Sahra Dalfen and Jody E. Saltzman as partners in the firm's corporate finance and securities practice and commercial real estate practice, respectively.
