Sidley Austin hired Catherine Karen to work in its government strategies practice in Washington, D.C., Iain Sandford to work for its international trade practice in Geneva, Switzerland, and Yuet Ming Tham to work in its arbitration practice in Hong Kong.

Carroll, Burdick & McDonough merged with Schweiger & Partners, an international firm with offices in Germany and Singapore. The merger gives Carroll, Burdick & McDonough three offices in Germany and one in Singapore.

Cole Schotz hired real estate lawyer Jordan Metzger in New York City.

Drinker Biddle hired health care lobbyist Anna Schwamlein Hoard, formerly of AARP.

Perkins Coie is launching a national healthcare industry practice in Seattle with the hiring of five lawyers from Bennett Bigelow & Leedom. The firm also hired technology licensing lawyer Marcelo Halpern in Chicago.

SNR Denton hired Terry Goddard, former attorney general of Arizona, and Lisa Ledbetter, former deputy general counsel of Freddie Mac.

Venable hired real estate attorney Gina Zentz to work in its Baltimore office.

Thompson Hine moved to a larger office in Washington, D.C.

DLA Piper hired Theresa Harrison in Washington, D.C. to manage the firm's pro bono work. The firm also hired two financial services lawyers and corporate lawyer Kathleen Smith Ruhland to work in Minneapolis.

Barnes & Thornburg hired corporate lawyer Nancy Schimmel to work in its Chicago office.
