It was another slow week in the legal industry as most law firms took a break over the holidays. A few firms had promotion rounds over the holidays, including Nelson Mullins, Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, Miller & Chevalier, and Baker Botts.

Nelson Mullins had a large round of promotions—17 attorneys were promoted to partner firmwide, and three associates were promoted to counsel.

Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy promoted four lawyers—three in New York City and one in Singapore—to partner.

Miller & Chevalier elected four members, including Layla Aksakal, Elizabeth Drake, Lamia Matta, and Daniel Wendt.

Five Baker Botts attorneys at offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston, New York City, and Washington, D.C. have become "special counsel" at the firm.The firm also hired Christopher Aylward in Dubai.

Jones Day hired Hank Walther, formerly in charge of the U.S. Department of Justice's health care fraud unit.

Ober|Kaler named Alan Arville a principal at the firm's Washington, D.C. office.

Gibson Dunn was named "Litigation Department of the Year" by The American Lawyer.

Morrison & Foerster promoted 14 lawyers in nine offices to partner.

McGuireWoods also promoted 14 lawyers to partner. The firm hired Jeffrey Chapman in its New York City office.

Rounding out the promotions for the week, Fisher & Phillips promoted four attorneys to partner.
