Most firms are taking it easy over the holidays, but there are a few moves to report this week.

Irish firm A&L Goodbody will launch an office in Palo Alto, Calif. in January.

Kentucky-based Greenebaum, Doll & McDonald and Indiana-based Bingham McHale are merging in January, forming a 247-attorney firm.

Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman attorney Jing Zhang is leaving the firm to serve as an in-house attorney at China Security & Surveillance Technology, a Chinese surveillance and security manufacturing company.

Business litigator Gary Freed joined Thompson Hine's Atlanta office.

Perkins Coie hired former Dickstein Shapiro lawyer Jacob Farber to work in its licensing and technology practice in Washington, D.C.

Venable hired former DLA Piper attorney Brian Quinn to work in its Baltimore office—he's an expert on Maryland regulations and legislation. The firm also hired Robert Davis, a former advisor of Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz.
