The legal industry added 400 jobs during October, turning around two months of job losses—the sector lost 300 jobs in August and 1,200 jobs in September, and is down about 3,000 jobs from a year ago, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Former Baker Botts partner Mark Spolyar has joined Ovidian Group, according to The Recorder.

K&L Gates launched an office in São Paulo, Brazil, the firm's first office in South America and 39th worldwide.

DLA Piper hired Beni Surpin to work in its San Diego office. The firm also transferred Scott Thiel from the United Kingdom to Hong Kong, where he will become a partner in its Asian intellectual property and technology practice.

Greg Call has joined BraunHagey & Borden from Franklin Templeton.
