According to the American Lawyer, pro bono work among the top 200 firms fell 8 percent last year.

Mayer Brown has a busy week ahead of the July 4th holiday. The firm promoted four lawyers to partner, including three lawyers in the firm's Chicago office, and one in its Hong Kong office. The firm also hired Jonathan Radcliffe to work in its intellectual property office in London, and plans to open a new office in Singapore.

Yaron Dori, a partner at Covington & Burling is the new president of the Federal Communications Bar Association.

Hildebrandt Baker Robbins has spun off from Thomson Reuters to form a new business law practice called HBR Consulting. The firm will continue to work with Thomson Reuters on certain cases, according to a press release announcing the move.

Barnes & Thornburg hired former Neal Gerber & Eisenberg partner Michael Carrillo and former Baker & Daniels attorney Kevin Erdman. In Los Angeles, the firm hired six attorneys, doubling that office's size.

Darrell Mottley, principal shareholder at Banner & Witcoff, was recently inaugurated as the 40th president of the Washington, D.C. Bar.

Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz is opening a new office in Newark, Del. Litigator Max Walton and business law attorney Joe Wolcott will be the first lawyers at the new office.
