Two major firms announced they were upgrading their office space. Morrison & Foerster has signed a lease to become the anchor tenant at 250 W. 55th St in Manhattan. In Washington, D.C., Holland & Knight has signed a lease to move to an office at 800 17th St. NW next summer.

The DOJ hired Sheila Birnbaum, a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom to be its special master for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. The FCC hired Renata Hesse of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati to help review AT&T's $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile.

Speaking of Microsoft, it has been 10 years since the computing giant's antitrust lawsuit. The Wall Street Journal has a blog post discussing the aftermath of the trial.
Amidst a rough time for the legal industry, the University of Delaware has delayed plans to open a law school, according to the National Law Journal.

More positive signs: demand for legal services increased by 2.1 percent from 2010 levels during this year's first quarter, according to the Peer Monitor Index Report.

The move officially gives DLA Piper the most attorneys in the world, with about 4,200. Friday, the firm absorbed Sacramento boutique Stevens, O’Connell & Jacobs and its 10 lawyers.
