Legal news was dominated this week by the upcoming integration of DLA Piper and Australia-based DLA Phillips Fox, a move that would create the largest business law firm in the world. The firms, set to merge May 1 pending a vote by each group's partners, will continue as DLA Piper.

Fresh out of political office, former Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh has joined the D.C. office of McGuireWoods. As a partner, Bayh will be a strategic advisor to clients with government-related issues, as well as a senior advisor to the firm's public affairs branch, McGuireWoods Consulting.

Airline labor lawyers Thomas Jerman and Aparna B. Joshi have moved from O'Melveny & Myers to Jones Day. Jerman, now a Jones Day partner, and Joshi, of counsel, are the latest additions to the Labor & Employment group at the firm's Washington office.

Another firm is setting up shop in Boston. Lathrop & Gage has opened an office with three new partners, Brian C. Trinque and James H. Velema from Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, and Giulio DeConti, most recently a partner at Lahive & Cockfield. The office is Lathrop & Gage's 12th location nationwide and will focus on intellectual property practice.

Holland & Knight is a sponsor of the annual ABA Forum on Communications Law conference set to take place this weekend, Feb 3-5, in Rancho Mirage, CA. Held at Westin Mission Hills Resort, the weekend's discussions will include the Internet and reality television's effect on privacy and libel law.
